14th Annual Beijing Hope Run

Inspired by Canada’s Terry Fox, Beijing hosts a Hope Run every year to raise money for cancer research.

The Hope Run was a huge televised event in Chaoyang Park, with visiting Olympic athletes, local TV stars and massive crowds of students from participating school groups. At No.25 Middle School, the kids hosted a “bake sale” (involving McDonalds, 7-11 purchases, imported candy, and old CD’s) to help raise money themselves.

We were all gifted with orange “Hope Run” kid gloves and brilliant yellow scarves. Scotty made it to the day, but you won’t see him in the pictures because he had to duck out before the run could start after his breakfast gave him food poisoning.

Highlight: I met the new Canadian ambassador to China, Guy Saint-Jacques, and his wife.
